Covid-19 Update August 11, 2020
To all our Fit Girls in 4th, 5th and 6th Grades and Families,
We hope you are all safe and well. Things have certainly changed in the last few months and we at Fit Girls are paying close attention to the Maine CDC and our local school districts and how we will be proceeding this fall.
As much as we miss seeing all of the girls and our coaches, it is a time for everyone to be safe. I hope as you navigate these times from home, you will continue to be active, be healthy, read good books and spread kindness daily. Our Run and Read into Summer program kicked off July 13th as the Fit Girls Survivor Kits were delivered. We heard from the girls everyday about their adventures.
We have been working diligently on our after school program for fall. Following school policy regarding after school activities, we will be offering a fall program kit to girls to participate from home. Although we will miss being in person, we heard wonderful reports from parents and girls about how the summer program kept the girls engaged, active and safe. Please continue to look at our happenings for registration updates. Thank you for your continued interest and support of the Fit Girls program. It is more important than ever to keep active and healthy and we hope girls in 4th, 5th and 6th grades will want to be Fit Girls.
Run and Read into Summer Program a Success!
It may not have been a traditional Fit Girls Summer Camp, but the girls were given Fit Girls Survivor Kits and finished a great week of outdoor fun and activities for Fit Girls and families in their own backyards. It turned out to be such a fun week featuring running, reading, yoga, a scavenger hunt, hikes, bee houses, rocks, journals and happy thoughts. A creative solution in our changing times. These girls had fun!
We are very excited to announce that our Fit Girls Fall Program will be delivered in a different format. In lieu of an in person after school program and keeping with the safety of the girls, our girls will have an opportunity to participate in their own backyards. This is not a virtual program. It is our way of providing friendship, keeping active and healthy, while navigating through the pandemic
Fit Girls Program is a running and reading fitness program for girls in 4th, 5th and 6th grades that builds self-esteem and confidence, and helps girls connect with and give back to their community.
This program will take place, twice a week for six weeks starting later in September. Each girl will receive a Fit Girls Fall Kit with instructions for two non-competitive weekly workouts designed to gradually and safely build endurance to run or
walk the 5k distance. One session also includes
a “great book of the day” discussion and activity that features a positive message. This fall our
book choice is “Moon Runner” by Carolyn Marsden and each girl will receive a copy.
Costs: The program is funded through grants and donations and there are no additional costs to the girls to participate. The girls will need a pair of good fitting running shoes.
We are very excited to be able to offer this program and we hope your girl will want to receive a Fit Girls Kit and take part in our program.
